With the average temperature across the entire planet at 1.62˚F above records since the 1880’s, 2015 is the warmest year on record. In the US, December was more wet and warm than it ever has been — no other month has held both distinctions in the country. In fact, December became the first month to reach 2 degrees Fahrenheit above average in the whole globe.
Although this change was “largely driven by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere,” according to NASA, another factor of this bizarre weather is El Niño. El Niño is the significant warming over tropical ocean waters in the Pacific, which warms the ocean and pumps lots of extra heat into the atmosphere, which then raises global temperatures.
