Xiran Zhang grad 10
As a 10th-grade girl, I see hot topics, or small gossip, everywhere in my school. It is a very common part of our student life. Gossip spreads very fast among us. One small story can be known by all students in our grade in just one day. These hot topics make our school life not boring, and they are a big topic for my friends and me to talk about every day.
In our school, most hot topics are simple and not serious. We never talk about bad or terrible things. We talk about small and interesting things around us. For example, last month, a boy in our class joined the school basketball team. This became the hottest topic in our grade. All of us talked about it and wished him good luck. Another hot topic was that our English teacher would bring us candies after we finished the exam. We were excited and talked about it for a whole week. Sometimes, we also talk about a student’s new shoes, a funny thing in PE class, or a coming movie that many students want to watch. These small things are our favorite hot topics.
Talking about these hot topics is a happy thing for us. It helps us make more friends. When I talk about the same hot topic with my classmates, I can start a conversation easily. I can become closer to my friends. After studying hard in class, talking about these light topics helps us relax. We can laugh and have a good time together. It takes away the stress from homework and tests.
But hot topics can also have bad sides. Sometimes, students change the story when they tell it. The story is not true. This kind of gossip can hurt other people. I have seen a student feel sad because of a false story about her. So we must be careful when we talk about hot topics.
I think we can talk about fun and good hot topics. We should never spread lies or bad stories. We need to think about others’ feelings before we talk. We can choose to talk about nice things, like a classmate’s good test score, a school art show, or a happy event of our friends.
Hot topics will always be in our school life. They are not all bad. They make our days lively and fun. But we must be kind when we talk about them. If we do this, our school will be a warm and friendly place for every student.
