Drama Class

Submitted By: Jessica Lee

Ever since school started, one of my favorite classes has been Drama. Drama has been a place for me and other students to relax, and for us to take ourselves away from the stresses of school. Whenever I feel consumed by my other core classes and tests, Drama has always been the place to unwind and de-stress.

In general, Drama is a very fun class. Everyday, our class is filled with so much excitement and laughter. Each day has something new to look forward to. The aura of the class is always so upbeat and lively, whether we are watching other students perform or learning how to act ourselves. Unlike other core classes, Drama encourages students to interact with one another. Students in the class quickly become friends through the open environment, and close friendships are developed.

This has been a place for students to express themselves in a judgement-free, accepting environment. The students are encouraged to be themselves and not be afraid to speak out. In the class, everyone has a voice, and, ideas are lifted up instead of oppressed. Like we learned in our improvise unit, there are no mistakes. Another thing students are encouraged to do is to take opportunities. Other than in class moments to perform and share ideas, there are also auditions for school plays and other performances. In Drama, students are taught to have courage to go pursue their dreams. In addition to learning how to act and perform, Drama helps students develop many important life skills as well. Some of these include public speaking and confidence– in general. In these couple months, I feel like I have already become more open about myself: I feel more confidence in performing and my daily life actions.
In conclusion, Drama is one of my favorite classes at school because it is a welcoming place to relax and de-stress. Furthermore, Drama has also taught me many useful skills. This class is a place for friendships to develop and become stronger; and, I know that I will continue to enjoy and grow through Drama in the future!
