Waking up in the morning

By: Jocelyn Li

Many of us have trouble waking up in the morning. Our loud alarms wake us up, but we fall back asleep as we press the snooze button. When you finally realize that you’re late for school, you jump out of bed and rush to school, possibly forgetting to put last night’s homework assignment in your backpack. This frantic start of each day has left mornings to be unenjoyable for many people. However, there is a solution to these stressful mornings, and it lies inside of your smart phone.

Have you ever found that sometimes when you sleep for five hours, you actually feel more rested than if you sleep for eight hours? Don’t be tricked; this doesn’t mean sleeping less is better. What this means is that you’re waking up at the end of a sleep cycle during your five hours of sleep and waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle during your eight hours of sleep. The app Sleep Cycle solves the problem of waking up by monitoring your sleep with your phone’s microphone and waking you up when you’re in your lightest sleep. You can choose a 30 minute period in which you want to wake up, and the app will sound an alarm that wakes you up when you’re in light sleep.

Unless your problem is chronic sleep deprivation, Sleep Cycle will be able to solve your problems and make mornings less of a hassle. Best of all, the app is entirely free to use. If you want your mornings to be better, try using Sleep Cycle and see if it works for you.
