Many schools are running out of money. Often times, their solution is to cut the arts in school: no more music, art, dance, or theater. Without the arts, the world would be dull. The U.S. has a low performance rate in math and science, so why not cut those subjects instead? This is because those subjects are important to our future, but so are the arts. I go to a school that is very strong in the arts. A school where they take musical theater very seriously. Through this, I learned a lot about how much the arts can really help us in life and in our future. Many students leave my school majoring in musical theater or art. Having the arts in school can help students have a career in arts in the future. In musical theater, everyone needs to work together as one cast and team to put together a performance. Students can learn how to work cooperatively and how to communicate effectively. Art can help you express yourself, it’s a way of letting go on paper, and the results are beautiful. Art is a little like writing. Writing is also a way that you can express you feelings down on paper. So why are schools cutting art but not writing when both are helpful to our future? Instead of cutting classes, schools can have the students put on a fundraiser performance to help earn money to save the arts. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Students could donate cardboard, paint, and fabric to make the costumes and props. It could be a huge success that could help the school to at least keep the arts in the curriculum. The arts are just as important to us as the academics are, and it would be a shame to lose them.
