How many of you have gone into summer expecting incredibly fun times and wonderful relaxation? Don’t lie, we all have. Many people, like myself, have gone into summer vacation with many expectations. Some examples include dreaming of going on vacation, hanging out with friends, and having an amazing summer overall. However, these expectations are not always realistic or even practical.
In my experience, I’m usually staying at home for most of the summer, just daydreaming about all the things I could be doing. My summer bucket list remains untouched, and being someone who likes to plan his schedules, my calendar is mostly empty. This is when I start to wonder how this is possible, when everyone else seems to be having the summer of their lives. The truth is, it is almost impossible to have the summer of your dreams, when everyone else has their own plans.
It is now when I start to realize that a great summer doesn’t always mean a summer packed with travelling and parties, but it can also mean spending time by yourself or relaxing with friends. It is not the quantity of the things you do, but the memories you make and the quality of the time spent. Even with this, boredom is still ultimately inevitable. When the end of summer is just around the corner, some people, including myself, even look forward to the start of school.
They start to anticipate more friends, new classes, and the excitement of a new environment. They start to have expectations, just like they had for summer. What I’ve taken away from this is that most of the time, the reality of situations will never completely fulfill your expectations. Sometimes, it is just best to live each day on its own, and see what the future holds for itself.
