Yogurt, a food that has been around since 5000 BCE, is the product of bacteria fermentation of milk. It might sound gross, but think again. Yogurt holds a variety of benefits—from health to beauty.
Skincare
Yogurt contains lactic acid, a natural exfoliant. When applied to the face, it gently sloughs off the top layer of the epidermis. This can reduce blemishes, scarring, discoloration, and fine lines.
Digestion
Used by King Francis I to cure his diarrhea, yogurt contains helpful bacteria (probiotics) that will balance the microflora in your gut. It may be shocking to know that there are more bacteria living inside of you than your own cells, but they are essential to your body.
Low blood pressure
Yogurt contains high levels of calcium, magnesium, and potassium to help lower blood pressure. It also contains whey protein, a water-soluble milk protein. Studies have shown that whey lowers blood pressure, hence why many athletes take it as a supplement.
Strong bones
Everyone knows that milk is good for strengthening bones, so why should yogurt be any different? The high amount of calcium in yogurt will benefit both the old and young.
