By Sophia Yang 王双双老师是双双中文学校的校长，也是双双中文教材的编写者。从二十岁就开始教书。文化大革命时期，她在插队的知青中脱颖而出，被选拔为教师。班里面的学生根本就不想学习，干什么的都有，这使王老师感到非常烦恼。恢复高考以后，王老师考取了北京大学哲学系，毕业后在中国社会科学院工作了一段时间，然后就去了德国研究哲学，最后在美国北加州旧金山湾区定居。因为老师经历了这么多事情，她的生活经验非常丰富，对西方和中国文化有很深的了解。 当初学一种语言的时候，背单词是非常重要的。可是到真正实际应用这个语言时，你必须了解它整个的文化和背景。 中国跟美国很不同，因为儒家思想是它的根，在生活当中家庭是最重要的。可是在美国，子女结婚以后大都不会跟父母一起住，因为在美国独立是非常重要的。这些区别肯定会使这两种文化的人有一些冲突。 王老师写双双教材是因为她认为当时没有一套全面介绍中国文化的中文教材。文化包罗万象，除了文学以外还包括历史、地理、哲学、饮食、科学技术等等。世界历史上的战争，多数都是文化冲突。所以了解和尊重不同文化，促进不同文化之间的交流十分重要。有一些学生学习中文十分困难，王老师认为父母的支持、学生的努力和吃苦耐劳是学好中文的关键。 王老师说道吃苦这一点真的扎到了我的心里。每个孩子生下来都是聪明的，上天赐予每个人聪明才智，但是后天的勤奋也很重要。虽然老师在讲学中文的困难，但是我觉得不是只是学语言要吃苦，我们干什么事情不吃苦是肯定做不成的。我从小就上画画课，上了大约七年左右，浪费了很多钱，到现在我仍然画一只狗都画不出来。因为我认为每个星期上一个小时的画画课就能把我变成画家，我错了。我真后悔浪费的时间和金钱，因为永远也找不回来了。可是，在中文这件事情上我的付出使我无悔，当然也有过不做作业的时候，也有不想上课的时候，可是最后还是坚持下来了。能学到这么多中国文化的知识使我很庆幸。 采访完王老师，我觉得我虽然已经上了高中，但是我真觉得还很无知，好多事情都不懂。老师说的文化观念非常重要，因为我们生活在这个世界上肯定要与人交往的。每个人都不一样的，要跟他们搞好关系必须能了解他们的文化背景。千万不要放弃中文，它真的不是一件烦人多余的事情，而是一个机会，一个能改变你的人生甚至整个人世界的机会。
