On May 15, 2019, US President Trump added Huawei Technologies, a tech giant corporate based in Shenzhen, China, to the United States’ entity list. This act will be effective immediately and will prevent Huawei from getting equipment and from doing businesses with any US companies without the consent of the U.S. government.
Google, one of the many US companies that do business with Huawei, has announced on May 19 that it will suspend its business operations with Huawei effectively immediately. This move will have a dramatic impact on Huawei and its users around the world.
This move by Google will let Huawei immediately lose access to updates to the Android Operating System, an mobile Operating System created by Google. Also, future Huawei phones will lose access to common apps such as Google Play Store and Gmail. This move also means that there will be no further Android security updates and patches for Huawei devices such as the Mate 20 Pro, the P30 Pro, and many more.
Many tech media suggest that Huawei would start building its own operating system. Huawei didn’t blame Google for the decision, and they claimed that Huawei was the victim of the US “Bullying.” Huawei’s future does not seem bright without Android and it might suffer a lot from this ban.
