One of the courses I have been taking in school is pastry arts. Over the past couple weeks, my group and I have been working on our fondant cake. Fondant is a thick, creamy sugar paste often used to decorate cakes. Our theme of the cake was “under the sea”, and our design featured a sea turtle, bubbles, and flowers. Creating the cake was long, lengthy, but enjoyable process. The first step to creating the cake was to design the cake, and we went the extra mile to ensure that it looked the part. After decorating the cake, we baked and leveled the cake before coating it with a layer of frosting to act as a base for the fondant. After coating the cake, the next step was to make all of the decorations on the cake. We had to roll out the fondant, and then cut out shapes. This allowed us to be creative and to use our imagination. The last step was to pipe frosting designs onto the fondant. The overall presentation was neat and professional, and it was tasty as well. Overall, this project allowed students to be creative and design a professional cake. Pastry arts is currently my favorite subject because we learn to bake many treats, and it is an exciting class to be in.
