Much of the time, high school students spend their attention on grades and standardized tests and are less focused on other talents and hobbies. This is because there is a common perception that colleges focus only on quantifiable data on their applicants, such as the SAT, ACT, AP tests, SAT Subject Tests, and GPA. However, many forget that, to enter top schools such as Ivy Leagues, GPA and SAT scores are not more important than your hobbies and talents. The traits that really make a person stand out are things such as mastery of instruments, sports, and unique talents. Though respectable GPA and fairly high standardized test scores are needed, admission officers at top schools often use notable awards and achievements to judge an applicant’s readiness for that particular college. Too often, high school students become so caught up on grades and tests, they forget to focus time and effort on what defines them as a unique high school student. A 4.0 GPA and a 2400 SAT score are not all that it takes to enter into an exceptional college; rather, a talent that is clearly impressive is what is required to enter top colleges.
