On July 4th, 2015, HEARTS and Rising Star Magazine hosted the 2015 International Cultural Exchange Conference Focusing on Teens. The focus of the conference was to discuss the differences between life in China and life in America for high schoolers. The speakers at the conference included professors, scientists, and educators from the U.S., England, and Canada among others. Many Chinese participants were from Beijing, Shangdong, Hebei, Shanxi, Hang Zhou, Nanjin, and Shanghai, and more than 200 people attended the conference.
Cultural exchange can: “break down walls between us, for when people come together and speak to one another and share a common experience, then their common humanity is revealed.” Some of the conference focuses were:
- High school life
- High school teaching methods
- High school curriculum
- Extracurricular activities
- College application/exam
The 2015 International Cultural Exchange Conference Focusing on Teens focused not just on language, but on social attributes, thought patterns, and the cultures of different groups of people. The conference has provided challenging intercultural learning experiences for young people; promoted social and personal development opportunities; and increased intercultural understanding, equality of opportunity, tolerance, and peace.
